Meet Steve

My life has followed a winding path to get to where I am now. Before opening my private practice, I worked for several years at a small counseling agency outside Sacramento where I was a therapist, intake coordinator, and member of the management team. I have clinical experience helping children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of problems including relationship issues, co-dependency, anxiety, self-esteem, depression, anger, neglect, trauma, and abuse.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a project manager, technical consultant, and systems engineer in the technology industry. I also have several years of experience in telecommunications and radio. A key to my success working in technology was my ability to gain a understanding of a client’s unique needs, work with them to develop a personalized solution, and to present complex technical information in a way they could understand. I believe that experience influences my work as a therapist and helps me to be more effective with my clients. Why did I become a therapist? When I decided to get out of the technology field, I spent a lot of time exploring my work history and came to the realization that helping people is what has always given me the greatest sense of professional satisfaction. I’ve had some personal challenges in my life as well, so I know what’s it’s like to feel hopeless and overwhelmed, and the challenges that come with trusting another to support you in healing and growth. Working with my clients to help them build the lives and relationships they want has proven to be tremendously rewarding and I’m truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given to help others through my work.

My education includes a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Brown University. I’ve received additional training on a variety of clinical subjects including couples counseling, codependency, personality disorders, sexual abuse, and solution-focused therapy, and
I continue to work on enhancing my clinical knowledge and skills through ongoing reading and trainings.

On the personal side, my wife and I share a home in the Sacramento area with our three dogs. I grew up in Northern California and have lived here in the Sacramento area for about 16 years now. When I’m not at the office, I can usually be found working on a home renovation project with my wife, cycling on the American River Bike Trail, reading, taking pictures, or working on my golf swing.
