Is stress taking over your life and ruining your relationships?

Perhaps you’ve heard yourself saying these things -

“I have a hard time sleeping because thoughts are racing through my head.”
“I saw my doctor and he told me nothing physical is wrong - it’s just stress.”
“I snap at my spouse or kids because I'm stressed, and it's causing problems in my relationships.”
“I'm taking medication, but it's not working very well and I'd really prefer a different solution."

In 21st century America, anxiety and stress are a challenge many of us face. Over time, unmanaged stress can lead to problems with relationships, career, and physical health. Medication can help, but for many people it's not the solution they really want.

It may feel like you're caught in a downward spiral. I know how it can be - I worked in the IT field for a number of years, and I remember the challenge of managing multiple demands, the frequent interruptions, and the difficulty of mastering an environment that was constantly changing. However, it's not hopeless - there are solutions, and I’d like to help you learn them. I really enjoy helping people just like you learn how to manage their stress and create happy, successful lives.

Why therapy? Couldn’t I just read a book?

Sure, there are plenty of books out there on managing stress - and a lot of them are quite good. However,
books can’t provide you with personalized instruction and feedback the way that a trained, experienced therapist can. In many cases, it’s the combination of new skills, insight, feedback, and reinforcement that creates effective and lasting change, and that’s what I seek to provide my clients.

New tools and skills, not just someone to talk to

While listening is an important part of therapy, in many ways I’m more like a teacher or coach
In our work together, I’ll be helping you to learn and practice new skills, and supporting you as you face the challenges of managing your stress and anxiety. Because each person is unique, the exact combination of tools I’ll use with each client varies. The most important factor in determining how we approach our work together is youIn my work, I’m interactive and outcome-focused, and I’ll use your feedback to help make sure we’re on the right track.

How long will all this take?

The process is different for each person, and depends on a number of factors. Some clients come in for just a few sessions, others choose to come for longer. Typically, I see clients for one 45-50 minute session each week. However, we can work together to develop a plan that’s right for you.

Questions or concerns?
I realize that therapy is a substantial investment of time, money, and emotional energy. To give us an opportunity to talk, answer any questions you may have, and get a feel for whether we would be a good ‘fit’, I’d be happy to provide a confidential consultation via telephone or
e-mail at no cost to you. Or, if you’re ready to tackle your stress right now, just get in touch and we’ll get started.
