Looking for help with your relationship?
If you and your partner are having difficulty communicating,
If you don’t have the kind of trust or intimacy you’re looking for in your relationship,
If it feels like your relationship has more conflict than connection,
Or if it’s just gotten so bad that you’re thinking about leaving your relationship,
…then I’d like to take a minute of your time to tell you about how couples counseling can help.
Relationships bring us some of the best and worst moments of our lives. Relationships require hard work and skills that you may never have been taught or had the opportunity to learn. The good news is that these skills can be learned, and they’ll help you have a happier, closer relationship. I’d like to help you to learn those skills and create the kind of relationship you want.
5 ways couples counseling improves relationships
1) Learning how to recognize and break the destructive interaction patterns in your relationship.
2) New communication skills to improve intimacy, trust, and the ability to communicate your wants and needs to your partner.
3) Learning how television, movies, and books have distorted your view of what’s ‘normal’ and ‘healthy’ and created unrealistic expectations that harm your relationship.
4) Gaining a greater awareness of the choices you face in your relationship on a daily basis and learning how to make choices that support the long term relationship outcome you are seeking.
5) Developing a greater understanding of how your life experience has influenced how you approach relationships and what you expect from them.
We’ll focus on your desired outcome
The most important factor in determining how we approach our work together is you. In our sessions I’m going to do a lot more than sit and listen - I see my role as a supportive teacher and coach, helping you create the kind of relationship you want. I’ll also use your feedback to help make sure we’re on the right track.
I typically see couples together for weekly sessions, but some couples find a different arrangement to be more effective, and we’ll work together to develop a plan that’s right for you. The number of sessions that a couple comes for varies widely – it may just be a few, or they may come see me for a number of months, depending on the nature of their concerns.
Questions or concerns?
I really enjoy helping couples to create great relationships, and I’d like to help you and your partner. Research suggests that many couples wait as long as six years to seek help. By then, negative relationship patterns can be strongly entrenched, and a lot of emotional damage can be inflicted. If you aren’t getting what you want from your relationship, don’t wait any longer. If you’re ready to get started, just call or e-mail me to set up an appointment.
