I focus on outcomes and the needs of my clients
I don’t use a ‘one size fits all’ approach in my work, and I’m not here to tell you what I think you need. Instead, it’s my job to help you create the kind of life and relationships that you want to have. I’ve chosen to learn a wide range of therapeutic techniques so that I can be more effective in helping you. Through getting to know you, your learning style, your concerns, and your goals for therapy, we’ll develop a treatment plan that fits your specific needs. Then, we’ll focus our work on moving towards your treatment goals, with regular check-ins to help ensure that you’re getting what you need from our work.
Often, there are small changes that can be made quickly that will resolve or ease the pain of an intense conflict or crisis. If that is what you are seeking from therapy, our work may be short-term. Or, if you wish to move into some deeper areas of exploration, growth, and change, we’ll continue our work as long as you find it helpful and productive. A number of other factors can influence the length of treatment, including childhood abuse, past relationship experiences, and the amount of time and energy you can dedicate to the process. In addition, we all have our own natural ‘pace’ – you can see it in how people walk, how they talk, how they do just about anything. I’ll work at your pace, whatever it may be.
In my experience, there’s a lot more to therapy than the 45-50 minutes each week that you meet with me. In the time between sessions, I may recommend books or suggest ‘homework’ assignments to help reinforce and integrate the material from our sessions into the rest of your life.
